Book Review – Risk Reading Spark by Jason Jaggard

Jason Jaggard’s book Spark: Transform Your World One Small Risk at a Time, ignites the reader to do something with the desires and dreams they already have. This is not a “How To” book, it’s a “Go Do” book. I was very entertained by Jaggard’s intriguing writing ability, story-telling and clever humor to engage the reader and encourage them to embrace the often feared territory of personal RISK . He restrains from overloading his reading audience with information and instead presents a simple question that people from all walks of life our answering on their way to personal transformation.

What is one risk that I can take this week that will make myself a better person or the world a better place?

This book has a healthy tension between simplicity and depth that stirs the soul. It is not overwhelming or paralyzing, but presented with bite size ideas that encourage you to do the small thing that will ultimately lead to the bigger thing that awaits you on the other side of risk.  I personally was so inspired by this book that I immediately started my own Spark group and our team is dialoguing about the possibility of including Spark in our spiritual reformation track. This book pushes all the right buttons and moves you to the edge of doing whatever it takes to live the adventure God has called us to live. If your tired of the same ole’ thing, this book will be like a cold glass of water on a hot day!

One constructive critique that I have of this book is its cover. I think its kind of blah and easy to overlook. I thought it could be more eye catching so that I would be compelled to pick it up and read. I passed it over a couple times before choosing it. Don’t judge this book by it’s cover it’s an outstanding book!

I received Spark by Jason Jaggard for FREE from the Blogging for Books Program in exchange for my review; however, it’s worth paying for!

Hey, I’m building my 2013 reading list! Do you have any recommendations for me?

  1. I definitely agree about the cover. There’s nothing that stands out or draws the potential readers attention. I’m glad I read your post and review! Otherwise I would have passed over it as well. Sounds like a great book.

I am currently reading many good books right now, but one that I’d for sure recommend is, “50 People Every Christian Should Know” by Warren Wiersbe

I personally love reading biographies and personal testimonies. This book is like 50 mini biographies in one book. Iwells angles from very well known people to others I’ve never even heard of before. Many people who Wiersbe writes about are “people behind the people”. Martin Luther’s wife Katherine Von Bora, for example. Others that are written about in this book are Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, D.L. Mody, A.W. Tozer, William Borden, Alva McClain, and more. I’m loving it.
