After being struck with food poisoning early Sunday morning, telling myself, “I think I can!” I realized after peeling myself off the bathroom floor it was time to call Pastor Jeff who filled in last minute! Thank God for staff members who are ready in season and out! Here are my notes to the message I never got to preach!
As we come to the close of our Guardrails series, we are very encouraged as a staff by the things that we are hearing, especially from our small groups. God has been making us consciously aware of areas in our lives where we need guardrails to protect us from the danger and devastation that awaits us on the other side.
But God doesn’t want us to only live in defensive mode. You will notice as you establish guardrails in your life that you will grow increasingly dead to those areas.
3 Guarantees Guardrails Bring into Your Life
1. The Guardrails we place in our life to guard us begin to guide us.
Proverbs 4:11- I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths
Proverbs 6:22- 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.
Isaiah 42:16- I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
2. The Guardrails we install in our life to defend us us begin to direct us.
Psalm 119:35 (NIV)- Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
Psalm 119:133 – Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.
Proverbs 3:6 – In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 11:5 (NLT) The godly are directed by their honesty
Proverbs 11:5 (MSG) Moral character makes for smooth traveling
3. The Guardrails we build into our lives to protect us begin to point us down the right path.
Psalm 16:11 (NIV) You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 119:32- I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
Proverbs 4:18- The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
Proverbs 15:9- The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway
Isaiah 26:7- The path of the righteous is level; O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth.
